Gourmandises on Yoel Moshe Street 10 is the perfect little corner for an intimate brunch. A mix of Paris with a touch of Jerusalem, this café is a perfect hideaway for a quick escape.

Al Andalus. Sit on the street with locals in this shisha café in the Christian Quarter next to Avtimos Market. Al Andalus is the place to get the most authentic shisha. Play backgammon and watch the locals go about their day.

Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem is the best hotel in the region (Gershon Agron Street 26-28). The architecture, the food, the service— a perfect combination of Arabic and Jewish, old, and new. This hotel has been completely revamped from the original building used as a British Officers Club in the 1920’s.

The YMCA building was built by Arthur Loomis Harmon in 1933 (King David St 26), the same architect that built the Empire State Building.

You have not seen Jerusalem until you have seen it from the Park in Armon Hanetziv. A Clear view of East Jerusalem and the old city and Temple Mount. Valleys and Mountains and on a clear day you can see the desert and the Dead Sea. A perfect view at night of nightly fireworks from Arab weddings in the valley.

Lev Smadar Cinema at Lloyd George 4. This old romantic theater has a chic café at the entrance. Seats are comfortable and cozy.

BEST PICNIC SPOT

Teddy Park has a great water fountain accompanied with music. The earlier shows In the summer are inundated with children running in and out of the streams of water, but after dark, the adults are free to kiss on the park benches and enjoy treats brought from home.

Aroma Café has many branches throughout the country. Unanimously the best coffee in the world.

BEST PLACE TO HEAR LIVE MUSIC

Mike’s Place in Jerusalem often has live music.

BEST MUSEUM

There are a million museums of course, but the David Citadel Museum is by far the most beautiful. Located inside the walls of the Citadel named after King David are room upon room of antiquities found in Jerusalem. Take a trip through time and get some stunning pictures in the gardens and on from on top of the citadel walls.

BEST DAY TRIP

Take a day trip to Bethlehem in the West Bank to eat Makloubeh, visit the church of the nativity and watch the sheep graze on the mountainside.

BEST LOCAL STREET FOOD

Achim Levy Felafel in the Machane Yehuda Market. Cheap and easy.
